Name meaning : After Launceston in Cornwall, England.
Notes : Opened Launceston 10 Feb 1871 (1600mm gauge to 18 Aug 188). Western Junction hard third rail from 1/11/1876 to allow 1067mm gauge trains of TMLR access to the TMLR station. Third rail extended in 1884. Last passenger service 28 July 1978. Goods service suspended November 1996, resumed 29 Jan 1999, final train 27 Mar 2003. Most extensive yards on the TGR system, including many sidings, watering facilities, turntable, etc. Station demolished in 1983 and a new (reproduction) one constructed 1996.

TMLR station at Launceston on Cimitere street. When the two railways were taken under Government ownership there was no need for two stations so the TMLR station and loco facilities were removed and the yard was turned into another goods yard (known as the Main Line yard), it's use lasting into the 1980s.

Another one of Launceston Station looking away from Invermay Road.

865 & 867 have just arrived at Launceston Station from East Tamar Junction, the driver has handed over the miniature electric staff hoop over to the Station Master. Unusually they are paired cab to cab.
One of the handful of air braked DB vans is also present. Zoom in between the guards van and locomotive you'll see a roll of newsprint paper from Boyer being unloaded on the gantry crane to head for The Examiner Newspaper.

DP 13 is seen in Launceston yard with Loco Inspector Philip Shipp is in discussions with a locomotive engineer. To the right out of sight is the former Tasrail headquarters and train control centre. These functions were transferred to East Tamar early in the 1990s.
