An obvious requirement for the terminus of the Tweed Railway at Kyogle was a turntable so that locomotives could be turned for the trip back to Lismore.
With the opening of the Border Railway from Kyogle through to South Brisbane in September 1930, for all intents, the turntable fell out of use.
However, when I made to journey from Sydney to Brisbane just under 40 years later, the turntable was still there!
I'll leave it to the experts to tell the subsequent story.
The photo was taken from the window of my TAM sleeping car on No. 3 Brisbane Express on Friday morning, 11th April 1969. On my way to photographically record the demise of Brisbane trams that weekend.

Signal box opened when the crossing loop was converted to a fully interlocked type.
It was closed when the safeworking and signalling between Casino and the Queensland border
was rationalised. A new automatic crossing loop was provided on the northern outskirts of Kyogle
and was designed for Train Order working. This conversion never happened and the new loop was
converted to CTC control.

A Type Q signal box constructed in the later years of World War Two after the transition from the Type P design. Maybe as an
economy move, the use of several boards only to protect the fibro is evident and possibly a move to save money. The provision of a nameboard on the signal box located on the passenger platform was unusual. RT Taaffe
