Type : Station
Line : Dorrigo Branch
Distance from Sydney : 707.900km
Location : -30.281388, 152.765439
Opened : 23 December 1924
Closed : 21st August 1975
Status : Closed
Name meaning : After the daughter of David Lloyd George, Prime Minister of England.
Notes : Up side platform was 76.2 metres long with a timber waiting shed. An overhead tank was located 172 metres from the platform towards Dorrigo. On 25th November 1925 it opened as a staff station and an interlocked loop with a 274.3 metre refuge siding was added 18th October 1950. The ash pit, located at mileage 440m. 8c. was removed on 5th July, 1961. 5 ton crane decommissioned 1964. Megan opened 23 December 1924 as an unattended siding. Opened as ETS and Crossing Station **25 November 1925** (W.N. 48–1925; Circular No. 589 of 1925) — but not a crossing station for regular trains; only ballast trains could use the siding to allow other trains to pass. The Lowanna–Dorrigo section was cancelled; Lowanna–Megan and Megan–Dorrigo (both Type B) created. The section type was revised twice in rapid succession (W.N. 47 cancelled, W.N. 48 confirmed, W.N. 49 corrected Megan–Dorrigo from Type A to Type B; W.N. 48 then cancelled by W.N. 49). 5 ton jib crane hook lift altered from 6 ft 6 in to 23 feet in W.N. 10–1943. Additional siding and signalling facilities and runaway catch-points commissioned 19 October 1950 (Circular No. 278–8); Megan became temporary terminal station from 6 November 1950 when the upper branch beyond Megan was closed by washaways — Officer in charge during goods hours; 19-class engines only; Megan–Dorrigo ETS suspended. Ash pit at 440m 8c removed 5 July 1961 (W.N. 31–1961; Circular No. 278–8 amended). 5-tonne crane withdrawn W.N. 26–1964. Sackley's private level crossing (438m 48c) deleted W.N. 3–1940. Station closed 21 August 1975; all references deleted W.N. 38–1975.

Megan, 1986, and unencumbered by extravagances such as electric lighting, the almost as built 5069 is preparing to lift nine L cars to Dorrigo, once 3028 has been attached. In view are a wellwagon, HR1500, formerly of the Caves Express set, and a BOB set car.  (5/4/86) (Peter Lee)
