#7
Type : Depot
Line : North Coast Line
Distance from Sydney : 979.787km
Location : -27.525387, 153.013782
Opened : 26th September 1930
Closed : n/a
Status : In use
Name meaning : By the water or by the water or possibly 'Yeerongpilly' is likely derived from the Aboriginal words 'yurong' meaning rain, and 'pilly' meaning a gully.
Notes : Yeerongpilly was opened on 26 September 1930 as the Queensland end of the NSW locomotive operations on the North Coast Line. The Locomotive Depot was a sub-depot under the control of Casino. Three 9-inch water columns were provided in the Loco Yard from opening. A respirator set (two respirators, two hoods, four gauntlets) was provided at Yeerongpilly Loco Depot for tunnel working between Glenapp and Border Loop from 1932. The signal box operated the Clapham–Yeerongpilly and Yeerongpilly–South Brisbane sections. Park Road Siding (under South Brisbane control) was established at Mileage 611m 41c between Yeerongpilly and South Brisbane in November 1942. The Intercolonial Boring Company Ltd. siding at Yeerongpilly was removed by 1961. The Tennyson–Yeerongpilly–Corinda Section siding (Brisbane City Council) was taken over by the Southern Electric Authority of Queensland on 1 January 1963. Yeerongpilly Loco Depot became the SRA of NSW Locomotive Depot from 1983 (Station Code 12255). The mechanical signal box was abolished by Queensland Railways on 17–18 April 1982; standard gauge signals transferred to Clapham signal-box and Mayne Control Centre control. The Yeerongpilly Loco and Wagon Repair Sidings continued to operate under yard conditions.
