Notes : Constructed with local voluntary labour, platform building added in 1940 also with volunteer labour. The Up side (sleeper) platform was 6.09 metres in length. The station was under control of Raleigh. W.N. 47–1936 level crossing conversion — the Thompson's private crossing becoming public in the same W.N. as the platform opening is uniquely documented. This is the only confirmed instance in the collection where a private level crossing conversion and a new platform opening are demonstrably linked — same mileage, same week, adjacent to each other in the same WN. Location of the one-time station (in reality a short sleeper (6.09 metre) platform with a waiting shed) at Archville. Archville opened on 6 April 1936 and closed in 1975, the platform (built first) was constructed by local voluntary labour as was the later waiting shed. The station sported the station number NC49a - indicating that it was under the control of Raleigh (NC49). The station accepted small goods, parcels and passengers and was a request stop only. Upon opening No. 11 & 14 mail trains serviced the platform as did goods trains 151 and 52. By July 1974 it was no longer in use and was formally closed on 28 June 1975 (along with a plethora of other North Coast stations). The station was roughly one mile south of Bonville. The level crossing that the station was sited on was originally a private one associated with the adjacent Thompsons property, on opening the crossing was converted to a public one. This crossing was always unattended but was gated. Today the only memory of the station is the naming of "Archville Station Road", it's signposted on the freeway but I doubt anyone passing it would give it a moments notice.
