Kempsey Stock Siding to Engineering Siding / Re: Tamban Loop

Another Type K signal box from the Brisbane standard gauge era. The platform seemed to have acted as a good collection point for the signalman's bits and pieces. RT Taaffe

Built to a similar design as the 1927 Telegraph Point. By 1979 the signal box was the only building on the truncated platform.

The signal box was to the left and a connection was added between it and the station building, to the right. Scattered around were the bits of equipment found at stations in a past era. RT Taaffe

Shell Siding to Wauchope / Re: Kerewong Loop
Last post by admin - Yesterday at 11:17:29 AM
Crossing loop was opened as a key locked type in December 1943. The following month it was
converted to a centrally operated loop with a signal box. The early opening could have been due to
wartime needs.

The points and signals were converted to power operation in July 1982 at which time the mechanical
interlocking machine was replaced by a DML OCS panel. When control was transferred to
Broadmeadow CTC the signal box was closed and the panel was redesignated an emergency panel at
which time it was transferred to the Traffic room of the relay room.

The design drawing used for Kerewong was also used at Gaulds, Mt Neville, The Risk and Loadstone.

Signal box opened when the line from Taree to Wauchope was brought into use. It was closed as an
Electric Staff station on 25 July 1917 and reopened on 14 October 1922 with the loop points being
operated by ground frames, and the Loop Home signals and all Starting signals cross boarded.
In 1933 the Starting signals, then out of use, were removed, only to be reinstated in 1934 along with
the Loop Home signals and direct operation of the Loop points.
The replacement of the interlocking machine in 1967 used the machine displaced from Dalhousie
Creek.
When the points and signals were converted to power operation in July 1982 the mechanical
interlocking machine was replaced by a DML OCS panel. With the transfer of control to Broadmeadow
CTC the signal box was closed and the panel redesignated an emergency panel and relocated to the
Traffic Room in the Relay building.

Another of the crossing loops provided around the time of the completion of the standard gauge to Brisbane. In this image Stuart Sharp has been caught conversing with the signalman. RT Taaffe

By 1976 the only building remaining on the platform was the Type F signal box. The signalman had some spare time to engage in the creative arts. RT Taaffe

A Type Q signal box that was placed, unusually, between the main and loop lines instead of beside the Main line. RT Taaffe

Tugrabakh to Taree / Re: Kimbriki Loop
Last post by admin - Yesterday at 11:05:48 AM
Signal box opened when a new Electric Staff station and crossing loop was brought into use to divide
the Mt George – Wingham section. The locking designed for Arthurville in 1930 was reused for
Kimbriki. Originally to be 24 levers but when brought into use only 20 levers were installed. Also
the cabin (signal box) from Kapooka was used in lieu of original proposed plan, a key locked loop
without a signal box.
When the signals and points were converted to power operation on 15 June 1982, the interlocking
machine was replaced by a DML OCS panel. With the transfer of control to Broadmeadow the panel
was redesignated an emergency panel and transferred to the Traffic Room. At this time the signal box
was closed.  (Taaffe)
