Name meaning : Named after Lieutenant Governor William Sorell by Governor Lachlan Macquarie
Notes : Watering facilities (courtesy of a nearby railway dam), crossing loop (dead end), loco servicing facilities, carriage shed, goods shed and stock pens. No turntable was provided so trains ran in reverse on the return trip to Bellerive. Station building remains (private use) as does the carriage shed (Men's Shed). Both survived the 1967 bushfires.

Here are a few b&w photos taken on 9 January 1966. Some of these images appear in the book 'The Bellerive to Sorell Railway Revisited, Second Edition', published by the Bellerive Historical Society Inc. in 2007.

Maree Alomes-McCulley states : This is a photo of Sorell Station, Station Lane, Sorell.  It closed in 1929 then it became a private residence.  My Grandfather and Grandparents own it from about 1948 to late 1984.  It was a great place to fossick around growing up.
