Notes : Opened as a central interlocked crossing loop of 400.5 metres, existing loop is 376 metres. It has a short dead end that extends on the Up side of the loop.

Some old photos of a long forgotten signal box and residence where my dad worked called Monkerai (near Dungog). A very relaxed dress code from my time in traffic :-) and shoot your own eels for dinner! (Andrew Whittaker)

March 1969. 5901/5909 on 418 goods from Taree were waylaid in the loop at Monkerai to cross a down goods (worked by a 44 class). (copyright on image)

The approach to the Sydney end of Monkerai tunnel, as viewed from NT-25, "Grafton XPT" on 25-3-1994. The line was slewed to the Up side of the tunnel early in 2005 during trackwork upgrading in the tunnel and cutting widening at the North end. Note the rock stone-walling on the left. (Graeme Kirby)
