Title: Coffs Harbour Railway Houses
Post by: admin on February 11, 2022, 10:57:51 AM
Coffs Harbour - notes say it was located adjacent to the Victoria St overbridge south of the station. At some stage Victoria St was truncated and this part is now Camperdown Street. The block this was on is now occupied by two new houses. (1972, State Archives)

John Taylor:

"Cecil Cox lived there."

This one is interesting, a railway residence at Park Beach (Coffs Harbour). It seems unlikely the Park Beach platform had an SM, so no idea what this one was for. (1967, State Archives)

John Woodward:

"Those houses at Park Beach and the platform at park beach the houses were railway houses the late John Mackwell who was employed by the perway gang as a painter lived there as did a fettler Col Gregory live in the other the platform was used on railway picnic days for the south Grafton district trains would run from both ends of the district letting people off they would stow the trains at Coffs for three day park beach platform was never maned"

Scott Sashmo:

"While i was living in Coffs i saw the cottages at Park Beach th last ones iirc were demolished in the early naughtys. Peter Leonard might know more."

Alan Gow:

"There was another on the southside of the creek next door to my grandmothers that we always thought was a railway house too, east of the train line. The railway fence deviated around to include it."

Kim Smith:

"I've been chatting with Jenny Shipman who lives with her husband Garry, opposite where these houses were. These are two of her comments - The one with the car out front belonged to Johnnie Maxwell. It was further up the road. Hicksons lived opposite and Sherlock's further up from them. Their house had a dirt floor"
