"Ray Ryan & myself were standing on the Randall street side of the tracks and watched the whole thing unfold,After the dust settled we had 1 fire appliance,1 Ambulance,1 Wauchope police officer & some more came over from Port. 1 person was evacuated the station masters wife.If this happened today the whole area would be evacuated, fire appliances from near & far"
Nettie Pearce:
"My parents , Alfred and Nellie Pearce , and their dog, were evacuated . They lived in the house, beside the railway line , just north of the railway gates. Dad was sitting under the Orange tree in the back yard, when all the steel ball bearings from in the railway trucks, went into the air and came down, like hail about him, in the yard. He was lucky not to be killed by them. The dog was with him also"
