When Alcos ruled the North Coast and the traffic was such that opposing trains could be found in almost every loop along the line, we see 4485 rolling off Patterson bridge with No. 290 goods on 14 February 1981 (Leon Oberg)

4472+LNER4472+ 3801 Sth Grafton 1-04-89, I was the Driver on diesel 4472. We bought the train over from Grafton leaving the two steam locos behind in Grafton as an April Fools prank arranged by the Chargeman Wombat Ward. The steam followed over then we had to come back on top of the train with diesel to clear for a freight to run via the loop.

4414 pulls out of Taree with an interstate container train 35 years ago this day, 8 January 1987. I managed to take a number of images of this unit back and forth through Taree during that summer period. It seemed that the SRA were committed to getting their money's worth out of the aging loco. According one source of documentation, 4414 was still kept for operational use until 7 June 1989.
Chris Harrison:
35 years ago this day on 22 December 1986 saw 4428 still looking reasonably fresh in candy hauling milk and some flat wagons from Taree. The location for this shot was Kolodong, just south of Taree.

Taree, 13 December 1985. Just a couple of features that seem out of place on the north coast. Before continuing south, 44100 shunts a string of NGAF and/or NGAX grain wagons that are being used for sugar traffic from the far north. In the repair road sits a couple of single deck electric cars far from Sydney, but fresh from a repaint at Goninan's Engineering in Lansdowne. Later that night the electric cars would be sent back to Sydney. This was the only time I recalled seeing NGA type wagons passing through Taree. (Chris Harrison)
